Quality vs. Quantity: Don’t Get Burned

When we were growing up we were taught many things, some good and some bad! One of our personal favorites: don’t judge a book by its cover. In the mobile accessory business, we’ve modified that lesson for our industry: don’t judge a case by its cover. Clever, right? In light of the recent smartphone case recall from a company VoiceComm does not do business with, we felt it’s a perfect time to speak to that tried and true lesson and how it relates to our business and yours. But first, a little history lesson.

VoiceComm was founded in 2001. After a few years of doing business with the dominant indirect mobile accessory distributors of their day, Derek Weiss, VoiceComm’s founding CEO, saw an opening to significantly improve the space. Fast forward roughly a decade later and VoiceComm is the premier North American smartphone accessory distributor while several of those distributors are no longer in business. We often talk about our hard work, dedication, amazing staff – especially our remarkably talented blog writer, partnerships and excellent product selection. But from a qualitative stand point, what do we mean by “excellent product selection”?

“There is a complex process that goes into selecting the products we offer to our customers” said Derek Weiss, CEO, VoiceComm. “Whether they sell really well, turn out to be the novelty of the moment – whatever – our mandate is quality. Whether we partner with leading players in the business like Otterbox, JBL, and mophie, or up and coming brands, we do our best during the discovery process to ensure you’re offering your end users the best possible products in existence. Quality and reliability make your end users happy and provides the residual benefit of building loyalty and trust to your store. Making a quick buck selling them garbage only works for so long; you won’t be around in the long run doing that, that’s for sure.”

Beyond VoiceComm’s excellent internal quality control standards, reputationally, our brand partners speak for themselves. Simply put, when you consider the top brands in the industry in terms of quality, all our partners fit the bill. Anything less would be unacceptable, and we pride ourselves on this mandate. We understand it can sometimes be a tougher sell demonstrating a more expensive product’s value vs. some cheap, bargain basement lookalike. With the attention this recall recently received, however, it will probably be a tad less difficult going forward. No one wants to get burned literally or in terms of quality!

Don’t judge a case by its cover are clearly words to live by. Another lesson relevant to this unfortunate episode would be it’s what’s inside that counts. We strive to offer the highest quality products on the market, and it shows. Our customers trust us, and we trust our partners to deliver the goods. Sure, some cheap, low-quality products may resemble what we offer, but those companies will typically cut corners to offer something cheaper on the market. Well, quality matters when it comes to protecting and enhancing the mobile experience and keeping consumers safe. Cut corners and you may end up with a mess on your hands, and that’s not good for your business, consumers, and the industry as a whole. When you work with VoiceComm you want quality, so let’s keep it that way!
